David Sanni (Born January 19th, 1983), professionally known as Davy Sage, is a Nigerian born recording artist & songwriter hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan in Canada. Born in Nigeria, he moved to Canada in 2010 to live with his sister.
Davy grew up in the city of Ilorin Kwara State in the North central Nigeria and raised by a single mum with 4 siblings, he was brought up around music as his older brother was a DJ which influenced his style of music in many ways from listening to 90s hip-hop and RnB to Afro-beat and more.
Davy’s style of singing is mix between English, his native language Yoruba and pidgin which is a breath of fresh air and he is definitely one to watch-out for in changing the face of African music.
Davy started his professional career in 2014 with an independent label in Saskatchewan Canada called BeMajor Music, releasing his debut single “High” in 2015 and following up with an EP a year later titled “Waiting For You” Davy’s unique Afrocentric voice combined with his unique lyrical ability and sound sets him apart from other artist in his genre and often compared with African prominent artist like Akon, Tuface, D’Banj and K’naan. He’s steady gathering a catalogue of good music through his consistent release and collaboration with other artists. After his debut EP, he has followed up with singles like ‘Dance With ‘Celebrate’, Let Them, Tonight, and Dance With Me. And he also released his second solo EP called “Identity” with inspirational song like “I’m An African” which is considered African anthem by his core Nigerian fans.
Davy Sage has been featured on Canadian major media platforms like CBC, CTV, Global TV and his music has also been played across Canadian Radio, both commercial, community, college and internet radio. He has also attended and showcased at Canadian music and art festivals like Indie Music Week, CMW,African Decent Festival, AfroFest, Cathedral Art Festivals and more.
